DA PACHECO TO SPEAK TO CALIFORNIA'S PROSECUTORS
REGARDING VICTIMS BILL OF RIGHTS

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, June 25, 2007: District Attorney Rod Pacheco plans to announce a major project to bring significant attention to victims' rights on a statewide and national level. Pacheco plans to make a presentation to California's prosecutors at the California District Attorneys Association Summer Conference on June 26.

"The Victims' Rights Project is a rededication to victims' rights to ensure that their voices are heard and never forgotten," Pacheco said.

The Victims' Rights Project is supported by Crime Victims United of California whose mission is to make a positive difference in California's criminal justice system on behalf of crime victims.

"I complement District Attorney Rod Pacheco for taking this step for victims' rights because we need district attorneys to be a voice for us," said Harriet Salarno, Director of Crime Victims United of California.

The primary focus of the presentation is the recent National Crime Victims' Rights Week celebration. During the week of April 23, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office held a series of week long events including candlelight vigils, a Guardians of Justice luncheon, and its first ever Victims Rights March and Rally that was attended by more than 1500 people including Attorney General Jerry Brown.

The Victims' Rights Project was launched in order to ensure that victims of crime are afforded all of their rights under the law. The three objectives of the project are to identify the rights of crime victims and witnesses through a comprehensive Victims Rights List, to evaluate current practices using this list, and to develop best practices to address and develop strategies for government agencies and private entities to use in order to effect those rights.

Pacheco's goal of the Victims' Rights Project is to encourage district attorneys statewide to adopt the program to ensure that the rights of all crime victims are protected.
