TEACHER ARRESTED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, July 5, 2007: A teacher at California School for the Deaf has been arrested on suspicion of child molestation. Daniel Ray Metroka, 51, of Riverside, was arrested on Saturday, June 30. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and is being held on $1 million bail.

"We take crimes against children very seriously and intend to protect the kids in our community from the sexual predators who prey on them," said District Attorney Rod Pacheco.

Metroka is facing four counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under the age of 14. The charges also include a special allegation because there are multiple victims of this crime. The crimes are alleged to have occurred elsewhere and do not involve any students at California School for the Deaf nor did the crimes occur at the school.

Metroka is scheduled to appear for arraignment on July 5 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 42 of the Riverside Superior Court. If convicted, he faces 15 years to life in prison.

If anyone has additional information, please contact Detective Roberta Hopewell of the Riverside Police Department at (951) 353-7124 or Officer Brian Renfro of the California Highway Patrol at (951) 637-8000.
