DA CELEBRATES RED RIBBON WEEK

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, October 19, 2007: District Attorney Rod Pacheco will join in the campaign to commemorate national Red Ribbon Week to promote drug-free lifestyles during the week of October 20-27, 2007.

"We're encouraging kids to stay healthy and drug-free while at the same time educating kids about making the right choices and the consequences of using drugs," said District Attorney Rod Pacheco.

The district attorney's office plans to participate in the week long celebration by distributing certificates to more than 200,000 school children in 17 out of 23 school districts throughout Riverside County. The certificate recognizes children for their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle and for their efforts to encourage others to follow by example.

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. It serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug-free lives.

Most importantly, Red Ribbon Week commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffickers in Mexico while fighting the battle against drugs to keep our country and children safe.
