BOY SCOUT TROOP LEADER SENTENCED FOR MOLESTATION
RIVERSIDE - On Friday, October 16, 2009, Judge Helios Hernandez sentenced
Edilberto Esquivel Olivarez (DOB: 07/07/69) to 17 years, 8 months in prison
plus a term of 15 years to life in prison (served upon completion of his first
term) for the molestation of two young boy scouts between 2001-2003.
Olivarez was a Boy Scout troop leader at his Riverside church from roughly
2001 through 2003. In that capacity, he sexually assaulted two young boys on
multiple occasions. Olivarez molested the boys at his home, in his car, and at
various other locations.
On at least one occasion, he showed a boy a pornographic movie prior to and
during the sexual assault. Olivarez also bribed the victims with gifts. During
another incident, he offered to buy the victim a PSP gaming system if he would
perform a sexual act with him.
Olivarez pled guilty to 13 felony sex related charges on September 9, 2009.
Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that there are additional victims.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Mike Barney with
the Riverside Police Department at 951-353-7121.
The case, RIF150906, was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Michael
