PERRIS MAN SENTENCED FOR 2005 MURRIETA MURDER OF ARMY NATIONAL GUARDSMAN HOME ON LEAVE FROM IRAQ

MURRIETA - A judge today, Nov. 13, 2009, sentenced a Perris man to 50 years to life in prison for the 2005 Murrieta murder of a soldier home on leave from Iraq.

Fabian Cayetano Urrea, DOB: 9-12-85, was convicted by a Riverside County jury on Sept. 18, 2009. Superior Court Judge Paul Dickerson rendered Urrea's sentence at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

On June 9, 2005, Urrea confronted the victim, 24-year-old Jorge Estrada, in the parking lot of a Murrieta apartment complex. Estrada, a U.S. Army National Guardsman, had recently returned home on emergency leave from Iraq to be with his wife when she gave birth. Urrea is the biological father of the child, but Estrada was going to raise the child as his own. During the confrontation, Urrea pulled a handgun and shot Estrada three times, killing him. Urrea then fled to Mexico, but was captured there in January 2007.

The case, SWF012120, was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Sam Kaloustian.
