An important component of providing help to victims of crime is the Claims Verification Unit that helps process claims to reimburse victims for out-of-pocket expenses caused by crime. The Claims staff of 13 help Riverside County victims recover financial losses and cover the cost of counseling, unreimbursed medical expenses, lost wages or support, and funeral/burial expenses. Regarded as the best in the state, this team even helps other counties process claims; yet they process all of Riverside County claims within 30 days or less. By the end of 2002, the Claims Unit had reached a new goal - reimbursing more than $4 million in expenses to victims in Riverside County in one year.
