Required Qualifications:

  1. License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License. (Driver's license number and expiration date must be indicated on resume.)
  2. Advanced POST Certificate (Preferred)

Education

  • completion of 30 semester units or 45 quarter units at a recognized college or university
  • 12 semester or 18 quarter units in criminal justice, administration of justice, criminology, law enforcement, or a closely related field

Experience

  • Option I: Three years of criminal investigative experience, in a sworn status, in a civilian governmental law enforcement agency that included as a primary responsibility for the performance of field investigations. (One year of the required criminal experience may substitute for one year in a civil investigative assignment in a civilian governmental law envforcement agency.)
  • Option II: Two years of experience as a District Attorney Investigator with the County of Riverside.

Examples of Essential Duties:

  • Investigate actual and suspected law violations.
  • Conduct field investigations and search crime scenes.
  • Interview and interrogate complainants, suspects, witnesses, and other persons to obtain information.
  • Travel to other states and foreign countries as required.
  • Assist the grand jury with criminal and administrative investigations.
  • Investigate the personal background of complainants, suspects, and witnesses.
  • Participate in, execute, and conduct search warrant operations, surveillance's, and undercover investigations.

  • Health and Dental Insurance

    Flex benefit of $456.72 per month may be used for medical and/or dental. Voluntary vision plan is available.

    * Effective 6-8-2006 Flex benefit plan increases by $111.28 per month.
  • Retiree's Health Insurance

    District Attorney Investigators represented by the Riverside County Sheriff's Association bargaining unit are eligible upon retirement for the Retiree Assistance Program. The Public Employees Hospital and Medical Care program (PEHMCA) at $25 per month is also available for retirees for health insurance through the County of Riverside.
  • Vacation

    0-3 years of service: 80 hours
    4-9 years of service: 120 hours
    10 years or more: 160 hours
  • Holidays

    Minimum of 12 days per year
  • Sick Leave

    Four hours per pay period with unlimited accumulation
  • Retirement

    County-paid retirement to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) Safety equal to 18.133% of salary.

    Retirement formula: 3% at 50 years of age
  • Long-Term Disability

    The county pays premium to Riverside Sheriff's Association (RSA) who will apply premiums to a plan or plans selected and administered by RSA.
  • Deferred Compensation

    Two voluntary deferred compensation plans are available.
  • Career Plan

    After two years as a Senior Investigator, employees are eligible to test for Senior Investigator II and III. Each position is an additional 5.5%.
